North Central College Golden Ratio Mural
This is the centerpiece of North Central College’s recently completed science center – a 51′ wide by 21′ tall mosaic mural of university photos forming a larger image of a nautilus shell. The shell conforms to the Fibonacci spiral, referencing the connection between science and nature. I worked on this project while employed as a designer by The Maude Group.
My role in this project was to create the production files for the 9 separate graphics that sit behind the metal frame and make up the actual mural. The biggest challenge in this project was logistics, as there were over 2300 images for the whole wall. Each image needed to be standardized in terms of resolution and color space, had to have some key fields of metadata, and required an (x,y) coordinate of that image’s location on the mural for use in an interactive touchscreen nearby.
